BasePoint Welcomes Brent Turner to Board of Directors as Organization Enters Next Phase of Growth

BasePoint is proud to announce that Brent Turner has joined its board of directors. Turner has spent decades building and growing behavioral health organizations across the country, most recently serving as chief executive officer and board member at Summit Behavioral Healthcare. He joins BasePoint as the organization prepares for significant growth across Texas.

What This Means for BasePoint and the Families We Serve

A lot has changed since BasePoint opened its doors in 2019. What started as a single location has grown into one of the largest privately owned adolescent and young adult PHP/IOP providers in Texas. Four facilities now operate across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a statewide virtual care platform reaches families beyond DFW, and the team has grown to over 200 employees.

BasePoint is now targeting 10 facilities by 2028, including expansion into a second major Texas metro. The priority through that growth remains the same: maintaining the clinical quality and patient outcomes the organization has built its reputation on. That is where Turner comes in.

“Brent’s track record of building and growing behavioral health care organizations will help us advance our mission to bring accessible, understandable and evidence-based behavioral health care to our patients and their families,” said Blake Serpa, Chief Executive Officer of BasePoint. “His strategic insight, industry perspective and understanding of the behavioral health landscape will enhance our ability to serve more patients while maintaining our high standards for clinical excellence and outcomes.”

Why This Matters Now

Texas ranked 50th out of 51 states based on Mental Health America’s 2025 Access to Care measures. Most counties in the state are designated mental health professional shortage areas by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). According to Texas hospital emergency department utilization data, hundreds of thousands of ED visits each year involve mental health and substance use concerns. For many families, especially those with teens and young adults in crisis, the options close to home are limited.

BasePoint exists because of that gap. The organization’s centralized Patient Access Center is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year. Licensed clinicians provide same-day assessments, both in person and virtually, helping families get clear care recommendations and connect to the appropriate level of support without unnecessary emergency department visits.

“It’s an honor to join BasePoint’s board and support an organization that is meeting such a serious need with quality care, clinical integrity and expanded access to meaningful mental health services for adolescents and young adults,” Turner said.

The Numbers Behind the Growth

BasePoint measures its growth by the outcomes it produces, not just the facilities it opens. Every location carries Joint Commission accreditation, and treatment integrates psychiatric services, therapy, family involvement, and coordinated follow-up under one roof.

In 2025, BasePoint recorded 1,745 admissions across its PHP and IOP programs, serving both adolescent patients (BasePoint Academy) and young adults in its BasePoint BreakThrough program for ages 18 to 35. Third-party validated outcomes data shows a 90-day readmission rate of 3.2%, compared to an industry average that commonly approaches or exceeds 11%, according to published behavioral health readmission studies.

“Bringing Brent onto the BasePoint board allows us to think more strategically as we continue to build BasePoint into a regional, and ultimately national, platform,” said Roy M. Serpa, founder and chairman. “Our mental health and clinical outpatient model is second to none in driving outcomes for adolescents and young adults.”

With Turner’s experience in growing behavioral health organizations, BasePoint is well-equipped to expand into new markets while continuing to deliver the quality of care that Texas families need.
