BasePoint Academy’s Best in Class Breakfast Honors DFW School Counselors for a Third Year

School counselors and student support professionals from nearly 30 Dallas-Fort Worth school districts gathered at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas on September 1 for the third annual Best in Class Breakfast. More than 100 people attended the morning event, which BasePoint Academy holds each year to recognize the people who look after student mental health across the Metroplex.

Why We Host the Best in Class Breakfast

School counselors are often the first adults outside the family to notice when a teen is struggling. They see the shift in a student’s attendance, grades, friendships, or mood, and they are frequently the ones who start the conversation that points a family toward help. That work happens quietly, day after day, and it rarely comes with much recognition.

BasePoint’s Best in Class Breakfast exists to change that, at least for one morning. The event gives counselors a morning off campus to eat, compare notes with peers from other districts, and be thanked for work that usually goes unremarked.

Districts Across the DFW Metroplex

Counselors and student support professionals came from nearly 30 districts this year, among them Arlington ISD, Frisco ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Garland ISD. Attendees picked up name tags at the door, met the BasePoint Academy staff who work with students from their campuses, and spent the morning with counterparts from neighboring districts.

The guest speaker was Isabelle Gorrell Galley, Responsive Services Administrator for Garland ISD, attending for a second year. She spoke about how much of student support work happens without anyone seeing the result of it, and what it means when a community partner stops to recognize that work.

For several attendees, this was a second or third year at the breakfast, and it has become part of how they start the school year.
