We are please to welcome our Medical Director of BPA McKinney, Rachel Zettl, M.D., M.Ed.!
Prior to pursing her career in medicine, Dr. Zettl had a four-year teaching career at a public high school, where she taught subjects including biology, physics, chemistry, and biomedical science. Her passion for working with the adolescent population coupled with her curiosity in understanding human behavior and the brain, gave rise to Dr. Zettl’s pursuit of a master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Studies where she also provided in-home ABA therapy for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. She then attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 2016. Following medical school, Dr. Zettl completed both the four-year General Psychiatry Residency and two-year Child and Adolescent Fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. While training, she worked in multiple settings including Children’s Hospital Dallas, Children’s Hospital Plano, Parkland, UTSW Clements, Zale, and the VA. During that time, she worked with patients of many walks of life, ages, and backgrounds to help treat a plethora of psychiatric disorders that included mood disorder, substance use, eating disorders, early childhood care, psychosis, and many more. Dr. Zettl is currently a volunteer faculty member with UTSW and provides supervision and education for trainees who are also working towards careers in psychiatry. She has multiple publications and feels lifelong learning is the path to success and the best way to ensure patients always get the best care.
She is very excited about being a part of the BasePoint team because, as someone who grew up in a rural community, she recognizes the importance of access to care. Dr. Zettl enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and hanging out with her pug. She is an avid fisher and enjoys doing crochet in her free time.
