The Story Behind BasePoint Academy

Our founding family, the Serpas, lost their teenage daughter Brittany to bipolar disorder-related suicide in 2012 after being grossly misdiagnosed. This tragedy compelled the Serpa family to take up the mantle of teen mental health care in Texas, and BasePoint Academy opened its doors a few years later.

Our Mission

The data-driven and community-centered mission of our teen treatment center is to provide accessible, understandable, and evidence-based behavioral healthcare to our teen patients and their families. By living out this mission, we will have a positive impact on teen trauma and mental health treatment in the Lone Star State.levels of care and support.

Our Approach To Treatment

The teen experience is temporary but highly formative. How teens learn to think, grow, adapt, and manage their emotions will carry on through much of their life. Now is the time to develop healthy coping skills and a strong sense of personal autonomy.

By employing holistic and evidence-based interventions, we will help teens navigate traumatic experiences in safety and with compassion. Our signature teen-specific treatment approach sparks the innate capacity to heal and the ability to establish healthier habits.

Our Core Values

Compassion, respect, integrity, innovation, collaboration, and commitment. Every encounter with teens and families is characterized by these values. These are the core principles we live, work, hire, train, and treat by.

Treating Teen Trauma: Mental Health Treatment For Teens

Official studies reveal that approximately 14% to 43% of children and teens experience at least one traumatic event. Of those numbers, and depending on gender, 1% to 15% will develop PTSD. The rates are even higher for some forms of trauma.[1]

A traumatic experience could be anything from enduring abuse or witnessing violence to the loss of a loved one, serious illness or accident, or experiencing a natural disaster.[2]

By implementing a teen-centered trauma treatment program that has been uniquely designed to address the adolescent’s personal experience with trauma, we can activate healing and recovery. Now is the time to lay the groundwork for the rest of life without bearing the harmful burden of unaddressed trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Individualized Treatment

Based on a comprehensive assessment, our highly skilled team of clinical providers will design a custom treatment plan tailored to each teen’s individual needs. This is the best way to ensure positive patient outcomes and lasting recovery success.

Individual Teen Trauma Therapy

Individual therapy sessions offer a safe space for teens to identify, explore, and address the impact of past trauma. Under the expert treatment of our teen-focused providers, they can learn how to overcome unhealthy coping mechanisms and develop positive coping skills that will last a lifetime.

Group Therapy

Leveraging the power of positive peer pressure, teens will learn from the experiences of a small circle of peers. Over time, they will gain one another’s trust and develop healthy coping skills, compelling each other to more positive habits.

Family Therapy: Healing Teen Trauma Together

A strong family unit is a critical support system for teens. But it can be difficult to know how to support your teen through their healing process. Attending family therapy is a valuable outlet for each member to be heard and supported both individually and as a unit.

Education Guidance

Teens and parents shouldn’t have to worry that their studies will suffer due to seeking mental health treatment. Our teen-centered program offers an academic component where we partner with local education counselors and schools to ensure your teen doesn’t fall behind.
