What is Anxiety?

The American Psychological Association (APA) defines anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” Anxiety is normal and necessary. It is like our built-in security system; we depend on it. Anxiety can help you avoid a dangerous situations, like not stepping in front of a passing car, protecting your child, or doing well on a test or task. Anxiety is connected to our bodies “fight or flight” system, originally used for things like running from a wild animal. Today, the same nervous reaction takes place when we confront a perceived danger. What Are The Symptoms of Anxiety?
